Someone told me to crawl on my hands and knees through each room to get a good idea of what was at the kids eye level.

sure, some of this makes sense, like keeping poisons and medicines and alcohol out of reach. but really, some of it is overkill. if you are with your child, which you should be, why make the house so “safe” that the chld never learns that some things are off limits? My three yr old was told lots of times not to touch my sister’s woodstove, but he still tried it once and he’ll never do it again. Certainly not scarred for life (one sore finger for a few days), but definitely learned the lesson. does that make me a bad parent? i think it encourages him to think carefully or ask for help before touching something unfamiliar / new in a new environment. I prefer he learn to think, than expect the world to be made safe for him. same with stairs. he could crawl up and down stairs before he could walk. we have lots of them in the house. i figured better he learn early. he fell once when the cat got in his way, and once going too fast in socks on wooden stairs. to no injury either time, and has never had a problem since.

The average dad spends about 6 hours a week with his kids. That’s not perfect, but today’s dads are doing better than the previous generation. PlaygroundDad.com is for the dads who dare to make the most of these 6 sacred hours–no smart phones; no conference calls–just quality time.

Playground Dad connects this new generation of fathers with the events and products that help them spend better time with their newborn to grade school aged kids.
