For last few years my wife Amy has created activities for us to do as a family leading up to Christmas. As a family we do this in anticipation of Christmas day. However I wanted to share two activities from this week because they have multiple great results for you and your kids.
Yesterday my wife had us make Recycled Christmas Cards for our neighbors. She had saved Christmas cards from over the years. Last night she got them out and let the kids cut them up and decorate them. We made multiple cards for our neighbors and others. Our son did one for the mail man. This is what it said:
Your probably nice, I hope! Mary Christmas.
We were cracking up over it.
The second activity we will do is bake and decorate Christmas cookies together. The kids always love this. They just can’t seem to get enough decorating. It is simple enough and now with all the pre-made dough it is even easier. We will then take the cards and put them with the cookies to take to our neighbors.
Here are two reasons why I love this:
- We get to spend lots of time together as a family and the cost is next to nothing. It’s simple but fun!
- Our kids are taught the value of neighbors and reaching out to them. We want our kids to care about others and to think of others during the Christmas season. This kind of activity gets them to think about others more and themselves less.
Dads there are so many more things like this you can do as a family and they teach your kids so many great things.
Your Turn: What things have you done as a family to make the holidays fun?
