Kids Do “Sabotage” to Honor MCA
The recent passing of the Beastie Boys’ Adam “MCA” Yauch had the entire entertainment industry reacting and reflecting on the group’s contribution to music over the last 30 years. When it comes to full length LPs (older dads know what we’re talking about), we didn’t really track the Beasties too much after License to Ill and Paul’s Boutique but the video for “Sabotage” (as well as “Intergalactic”) were pivotal in an age when music videos still mattered.
No tribute to that group and that music video will be as charming as what these youngsters put together:
I can’t stand it. Classic.
Kids running around with guns is supposed to be disturbing in a way that makes old ladies clutch their pearls and faint. The “adorability” of this makes clear the power of music to change everything. I thought the use of “Sabotage” in 2009’s re-imagined Star Trek movie was brilliant in its placement and its statement about culture and a different generation. But this, this is a move in that same direction. Rest in peace, Adam.
