Introduction of a New Dad/Blogger

I would first like to introduce myself to the blogosphere, my name is Ken, and I’m a Dad.

This is my first soiree into the world of blogging, and though I’ve been toying with the idea of starting up a blog, I must admit, that even with all that I have seen and done in my short life on this planet, this task had snowballed in my head into this big scary boogie monster that I thought I could just make go away by pulling the covers over my head. So, alas, I have taken to Playground Dad, as a leaping point. Whether I am leaping into nice soft crazy bounce or a hard wood floor covered with the latest assortment of Lego creations my two-year old Jack has so proudly put together, is yet to be seen.  I am by no means an aficionado of the english language, so if I am lucky enough for anyone to read this, I appreciate your patience and understanding.  Sure I went to college, but my time was torn between classes, working part-time, ROTC and the more than occasional nights out with friends.  Not to say the education part of school was not extremely important, I always felt that finding a healthy balance between social networking and studying were as important in my life lesson ‘bag’.  That balance was sometimes a teeter-totter with my work and school responsibilities on one end and college excesses equivalent to the Titanic on the other!  To quote my male parental unit, “You have to find moderation”.  Needless to say, it was sometimes a difficult search.  Nevertheless, I graduated when I was supposed to with a degree in Marketing and Logistics from my now Alma Mater Central Michigan University, and a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Michigan Army National Guard.

Now what?

Fast forward a decade, and I find life has taken me on some amazing adventures through both my professional  and military careers.  Multiple deployments in combat, leading hundreds of America’s sons and daughters, increasing responsibilities and challenging roles in my civilian work, have, in my mind, prepared me for this new and amazing role…Dad.

My hope for this little slice of creative outlet, is to share my adventures through parenthood through my experiences and perspectives.  I will tell stories of my adventures in the military, what its like to go through the birth of a child abroad, and how in France, the simplest task, such as buying stamps, can be a bit intimidating.  You may laugh, you may tear up, you may even roll your eyes, but in the end…hopefully you will take something away from it.  Like I tell my Soldiers, I don’t care if you learn what to do, or what NOT to do from my example….as long as you learn.

With that, I hope you look forward to reading my articles as much as I look forward to writing them!

The average dad spends about 6 hours a week with his kids. That’s not perfect, but today’s dads are doing better than the previous generation. PlaygroundDad.com is for the dads who dare to make the most of these 6 sacred hours–no smart phones; no conference calls–just quality time.

Playground Dad connects this new generation of fathers with the events and products that help them spend better time with their newborn to grade school aged kids.
