It’s not news to most parents that the iPhone has become as much a gaming platform for the kids as it has anything else. Over the last couple years, a huge array of kids related apps have hit the app store, so when we come across ones that our kids have actually had fun with, we like to share it with other Playground Dads. Recently our kids have spent a lot of time with great drawing app called Creople. Creople allows kids and parents to create half creature/half people drawings that they can they save and share.
The initial magic is the simple mystery that kids enjoy as they create the four segments of your creople individually. You create the head, the torso, the legs and the feet and you can hear silent drum roll as the kids push the “done” bottom to unveil their finished creation. At first we thought that was all there was to the app, but it gets really fun when you click the “options” button and start to mix in all of the cool preloaded images that come loaded into the app. The real creativity starts when the kid begin to mix those pre-loaded assets with their own finger art work.
Another option that was a surprise hit in our house was the ability to post the finished creople’s to Facebook. Although our kids are too young for facebook accounts, they felt like they were famous looking at their creations on dad and mom’s facebook profile pages. In addition to all these great features, we like that the Creople app developers have managed to cultivate a pretty vibrant facebook community, with contests and giveaways. When you couple the community aspect with the fact that the app will be updated with new preloaded images, contest winning artwork and new features, you have a kids app that holds the rare potential for longevity.
