This Cool Toy is Making AM Radio Cool Again

We’re always eager to highlight products that help kids and dads build and create together. This Christmas grandma and grandpa hooked us up with the Snap Circuits SC-300 by Elenco. We didn’t open it immediately. The kids thought it looked “ok” but a little complicated and academic-y for the holiday season. Also, the packaging was a bit old school and uninviting. Just recently though, after growing tired of all the other toys, the kids opened the Snap Circuits to see what this stuff was all about.

Not expecting much, they started playing with the Snap Circuits right before bed time. Accompanying the 60 real electrical pieces are colored activity books illustrating the 300+ projects to be created. Within 5 minutes our 8 yr old came out of her room with a proud grin and a light switch she had created. Seeing how much fun she was having, I joined in and it quickly became evident that we were going to miss curfew. We swiftly built cool device after cool device; a mini fan, a holiday music box and a buzzer, to name a few.  We then went for our most complicated electronic challenge of the evening: The AM radio. I had never seen the aspiring engineer in my daughter, but she was snapping on electrical pieces like a future M.I.T. undergrad in anticipation of creating something that would actually play Radio Disney in her room. After careful analysis of the instructions and acute attention to detail, the radio was complete. We couldn’t find Radio Disney on the dial, but my daughter had never been so happy to hear sports talk radio.

Since then, we’ve had so much fun building with the Snap Circuits that our Legos are starting to feel lonely. We highly recommend these great electrical sets to other Playground Dads and their grade school aged kids. For more info on Elenco products visit their site: http://elenco.com/
